The Cook’s Cottage
STYLISH AND RUSTIC COTTAGE
IN THE COUNTRYSIDE OF BURGUNDY
The Cook’s Cottage is a large ground floor studio (50m2) with a separate bathroom. Built with traditional materials such as lime render on the walls, a 200 years old limestone fireplace and with its soft and earthy colors, it is the perfect place to relax and enjoy French country life.
This studio is on the ground floor of our farmhouse. Our private spaces are on the first floor and in the adjacent barn. You have a private entrance and a private and secluded garden just opposite the front door to the cottage that is for your personal use only and allows for sun bathing, dining and relaxing. Next to that you have access to the heated swimming pool and garden which are shared with our family and the guests of The Writer’s Cabin.
Please note that you are staying inside our house and can hear us occasionally on the first floor in the mornings and evenings.
A COMFORTABLE HOME AWAY FROM HOME
The 50cm thick stone walls of our 150+ year old farmhouse keep the studio cool even during the hottest summer days. On the colder days, the wood burner or the central heating keep the cottage nice and warm. Enjoy the authentic and rustic style of the cottage.
There is a large and comfortable king size bed, dining table and cozy seating area. There is a separate bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower.
We’re only 2 miles away from the village Lacanche, where the famous French ranges are made. They are the pride of our region and so we wanted to dedicate our cottage to one of the biggest joys of French living: food and cooking! That’s why you find a Lacanche range in the kitchen and everything you need to cook a lovely meal from the ingredients you find at the many local markets.
In the spirit of creating a beautiful space to stay for our fellow foodies, we’ve decided to call this cottage “The Cook’s Cottage”. We’d love to welcome you here, even if you do not plan on cooking at all…
We’d be happy to recommend our favorite restaurants to you or you can enjoy our home cooked meals and breakfasts (supplement).
You’ll have a private garden with a hammock, a table and chairs for dining and a fire pit and chairs for cozy evenings. You also have access to the shared terrace with beautiful views of the forest and farmfields as well as to the shared heated swimming pool.

ABOUT US
We’d been dreaming of renovating an old French farmhouse for years, but never took it very seriously. We enjoyed going on trips to France to look for houses, “just for fun”. In 2018 we took another one of those trips with no intention of actually buying something but when we set foot on “La Source” we felt we had no other choice but to buy it! Thinking it would be a holiday home.
We lived in the city in The Netherlands, were busy running our businesses and as much as we enjoyed this exciting life, we were craving to have a refuge in the countryside that would allow us to be closer to nature.
We never intended to move here. But after the first holiday we spent here with our boys – then 8 and 10 years old – we just didn’t want to go back to The Netherlands.
And so, without too much overthinking, we moved here and took on the immense project of renovating the house and turning it into the family home and “refuge d’hôtes” we had always dreamed of.
We feel this place brings new and positive energy, inspiration, and the silence and peacefulness of the countryside allow you to reconnect with your essence and to reset. We would love to welcome you here so you can experience for yourself what it was that pulled us here. We are still in full renovations so we may look a little dusty when you cross us on the property 🙂
A bientôt!
Marloes and Olav
